Hardbeatnews, WASHINGTON, DC, Fri. May 27, 2006: A ground-breaking National Caribbean-American Student Leadership Conference comes to New York University, 60 Washington Square South in NYC on Friday, June 23rd from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The event is being presented by the Institute of Caribbean Studies in celebration of the launching of National Caribbean-American Heritage Month – June 2006. It will be presented under the theme, “Developing Future Leaders: Prospective of Caribbean Americans Success Stories” and will showcase Caribbean-Americans who have made a positive impact on the social, economic, and political development of the U.S.
Organizers say it also aims to inspire the students to become leaders themselves and to play an active role in shaping their society. Speakers from various professions such as business professionals, politicians, social activists and celebrities will be in attendance.
On February 14, 2006 the US Senate approved House Concurrent Resolution 71 declaring June as Caribbean-American Heritage Month. The bill awaits the President’s signature.
