Twin Mountains by an Anonymous Guyanese Poet

Twin Mountains

At dawn’s light for the first time I saw you

Centered in an orb of silver and blue

Verdant cloaks drawn against the morning chill

Majestic beings yet sombre and still

Heavenly sky lightly kissing your tips

I stifled the gasp that beat at my lips

But the silvern waves that sparkled and shone

In prayerful worship, night’s repose done

And the dolphin twins that leapt in the dew

Bowing and dancing in homage to you

Did slip gently past the quieted sighs

And open the floodgates behind my eyes
